The Soroptimist Ruby Women Helping Women Award was created to celebrate women who have significantly enhanced the lives of women and girls through professional, business and volunteer activities. The awardee will receive $1,000 to donate to a non-profit of her choice that benefits women and girls. The award recipient may be eligible for further awards with Soroptimist International at Regional & Federation levels. Women may nominate themselves or another woman they feel is deserving of this honor.

Formerly the Soroptimist Making a Difference for Women Award, which was first established in 1974 in honor of International Women’s Year, the Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women honors the first federation president, Ruby Lee Minar and the award was renamed in 2008. A ruby is also a deep red gemstone associated with wisdom, strength, power and love: all words embodying the strong and compassionate women who are award recipients.
