100 Years Legacy Project

Soroptimist International was founded in Oakland, California in 1921. Soroptimist is a Latin term meaning “Best for Women”. Word spread and clubs began forming across the nation and then around the world. This global volunteer network now consists of more than 72,000 members in 121 countries. We advocate for human rights, gender equality, and at our core, do everything we can to help women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential.

We love this work and feel passionate about being changemakers supporting women and girls in our community. That’s why we have chosen the Girl Scouts of Northern California as the recipients of our 100-year Legacy Project.

In anticipation of Soroptimist’s 100th anniversary, our local club has worked on a plan to proudly celebrate this milestone with yet another major project in our community. We have chosen to do our project in conjunction with the Girl Scouts of Northern California.  As part of our 100-years legacy, our club has partnered with the Girl Scouts of Northern California on their groundbreaking project at their new location on Floral Ave. Our club donated $20,000 to the construction of the outdoor Pavilion and bathroom. This is a very natural partnership, since both organizations are all about empowering girls, to become strong confident women and both organizations have been around for over 100 Years!
